Carry the bride over the threshold
|
The tradition to carry a bride over the threshold of the married couple's home
is a 2000 year old tradition. The ancient Romans started this tradition because
they believed it was unlucky for a bride to trip on her way into her new home.
Demons haunted doorways and could cause the bride to trip. A Roman bride was
also carried around the hearth of the home to bring her into the husband's
family. It was bad luck to trip or fall on the way to the hearth, so the
husband carried her inside so she wouldn't trip to ensure that she would become
part of his family. By Nicole Mazzeo Wrapwithus wedding favors |
